Animation Progress!
I've been animating my proof of concept starting from the timed images from the animatic!
Here's where I began:
I started animation by timing the movement for just the gloves. I thought it would be a proper way to begin, given that the hands are the most expressive part of the animation. I also made them smaller in the frame here so I can crop them later.
This wasn't necessarily the right way to go about it, and if I were to do it again, I would have posed out the entire body before going in deeper with the timing.
With this animation, I filled in the rest of the features after posing out the gloves, which proved finicky as I had to extrapolate the positions of features that drove the motion, such as the shoulders and the arms. That's what I did for pass #2. My animation skills are more than a little rusty, so in figuring things out again I lost a lot of time and made a lot of messy drawings.
Pass #3 consisted of re-timing the animation to flow more smoothly with a higher framerate—I had overestimated the amount of time the animation would take after staring at the low-framerate rough animation. I also added in secondary features and defined some of the volumes.
My latest pass cleaned up the linework and restated certain forms.
Just need to color, crop, and comp the images into a basic white backdrop from Maya. Can't wait!
Update: Wrapped up all the other tasks, and learned a good many tricks along the way. Here's what I got to tonight for my proof of concept:
Still a lot of things I can add to make it look better, but the main stuff is there. We'll see where it goes!
